Serious about turquoise!!!

Last week I mentioned that I loved this new turqoiuse color that we found, well that has carried on into this week because everything I am painting right now seems to be begging for that color.

The first thing screaming at me to be turqouise were two chairs that my husband found about 2 weeks ago.  The only problem was that I had recently vowed that I will no longer hand paint chairs because its a pain and it takes...FOREVER!!  But, this color is not found in a spray paint so I decided that I would suck it up and just do it.  This is what one of the chairs looked like before the makeover...pretty gnarly!!
Both chairs were equally disgusting!  Here is what they look like now...so much better!!!
Each chair is $45 or the set for $80

The next project just yelling at me was this really nice solid oak side table we found at a yard sale.  The owner has this piece for over 30 years...I am sure she would have a heart attack after seeing what I did with it but I love it!!
For sale $65

When I was finishing up these projects my neighbor asked if I was selling these as a set and my first thought was that was alot of turqouise!  But then once I put the seat cushions on the chairs and put it all together it looked really good.  Here is a picture I got from the store window at blue chair childrens books where I put some of my furniture on display (sorry if its a little hard to see!)

Next week I will have a different color that I am now falling in love with keep your eye out for my new pieces!

I Love Turquoise!!

Do you all remember that black desk from about 3/4 weeks ago?  Well, if you don't remember here is a reminder...
Originally we wanted to make this white and distress it to give it a nice shabby chic look but turning something from black to white is pretty difficult.  My husband did some research on the web and found some really neat colors that people were using out there and this is what the finished product looks like!
This dresser is painted a turquoise color and then rubbed with a dark stain to get an aged vintage look.
Sold on 7/21 for $275
Along with being busy from projects it was a busy sales week as well, here are a few things that sold!!
Very cute Fancy Nancy Chairs
Antique Wood Side Table

If you have a piece of furniture that you want refurbished or repainted I can do that as well.  Or if you are looking for something in particular please contact me through the blog and I will keep my eyes out!

My First!!

Two weeks ago I had my first request!!! A mom who lives here in Glendora asked me to look for a desk and chair for her young daughter. She likes the white shabby chic look and wanted to pick out the fabric for her the chair. With that the hunt began and this is what we found:
My husband was so excited to get this one going that this is the only shot I got before I started painting. I wasn't sure if she would like this one because its a little chunky and the hardware style was older. So this is the picture I sent her when I first finished painting to give her an idea.
This hasn't been distressed yet but she hadn't seen any pictures yet and before I customized it I wanted to make sure she liked the style. She loved it but didn't like the hardware. The bottom drawer hardware was going to be expensive so I asked her if she wanted to buy new hardware or I could spray paint the hardware and make it more little girlish.
While I was spraying these guys I was holding my breath because sometimes spray paint and I don't agree and it creates more work but as it turns out they looked really good!!! While I was waiting for these to dry I distressed the desk and this is what it looks like with the chair!!

The set sold for $118

This was exciting and I am looking forward to doing more of this in the future. Stay tuned, if you remember that black dresser I showed you a picture of a couple weeks ago I will hopefully be done this week and it will be quite a dramatic change. Till next week!

Holiday Weekend

We have been going to yard/garage sales since about October of last year and what we have found is that during a holiday weekend it is slim pickins'. We were able to find some odds and ends and one really cute desk/credenza piece. One thing I did learn this week is that you shouldn't stain in this ridiculous heat...it doesn't turn out the way you would expect it to.

But despite the heat I was able to get some projects done. I have been working more with spray paint. Spray paint and I have a love hate relationship because it makes projects much quicker and less painful but its expensive and if you aren't careful you get drip marks and you have to make sure that it covers everything. I used it on this corner shelf that I bought a long time ago and it wasn't selling in its normal tan/wood color so I spray painted it blue and...it finally sold!

This is another spray paint project that sold this week. I really liked this one because its a one fo a kind toy box! We were getting board with our normal black/white colors so the hubby suggested chalkboard paint with a fire engine red bottom. This is the first time I have used the chalkboard paint and I love it! This turned out really cute and was sold for $40!!

I have alot of projects going on right now but its hard to work in this heat so its a slower process right now especially with a 2 1/2yr old who has little patience for me but I am working to get it all done!! Until next week!
