CHALK PAINT!!

For those who haven't heard, chalk paint is the new craze out there in the furniture painting world.  This product can be made or you can buy it but, its only sold at very few places.  After looking into the pros and cons of the homemade version I initially decided against it but then my friend who owns "knot too shabby" furniture store in downtown Glendora started selling it so I thought I would try it.  I was really excited because there is no prep work involved in this paint, that's right, no sanding, no priming!!!  Sounds fantastic right?! The only catch, its $42 a quart!!  Yes that number is correct.  I decided to give it one quart so I chose Old White thinking I would get the most use out of the color.  I definitely cannot afford to spend that much on paint all the time.  I had the perfect dresser to use it on and now that's its all done I love it!!!

Before

AFTER

Learning to use this new paint was rough at first but I love it now.  I love how it distresses and finishes super smooth!  But beware if you are thinking about using it, you must seal it with wax(preferably) or a poly.  Its water based and will come right off with a wet rag if not sealed.  I wish it were cheaper I would use it all the time but the next time I decided to splurge it will be for one of Annie Sloan's colors!!

Oh yeah and I am keeping this one for the kids room! I I hope they like it as much as I do!

A New Color!

I just finished this dresser today....just escaping the rain!!!  I knew it was coming but didn't think it was coming until 12, well the surprise was on me and it started raining while I was outside finishing this piece!  I got this piece from a friend of my grandfathers and for the life of me I cannot find the before picture.  Here is what it looks like now!
For sale $200

The sides have a really neat decoration that I haven't seen on any other dresser I have worked on.  This is a one of a kind grey dresser with satin black handles.  This one was a beast to paint and took me forever but I am happy with the outcome.

My next project is using chalk paint which is new to me.  Unfortunately this rainy weather is keeping me from getting on it today but with a little hope it will be done by the end of the week.

A Cute Repeat!

Tiffany blue seems to be a good color for me, especially when I put it on the cute french provincial style dressers we come across.  I love this color, I am actually going to paint the Lane Chest we just found a similar blue to add some color to my white and black room!  Here is this cute dresser!
For Sale $120

More to come this week!  I am seeing some pink in my future!

A Little Different!!

After my small break I am left with many projects to complete!  The problem is that football is on both Saturday and Sunday...which completely slows down my process.  With the rain coming this weekend it won't help but this past weekend I was able to finish a new dresser and I think it looks really neat!  I don't have the before pics but here is what it looks like now...
For sale $165

The knobs are the original black glass knobs that came with the dresser.  The two bottom drawers are super deep and will hold quite alot.  It wasn't easy with that decorative accent but I like the way it came out.

I have so many things to work on now...plus I just found a beautiful curvy lane cedar chest at a thrift store that I am going to redo for myself.  Pictures to come soon...I am so excited!!

Christmas Break

Since I am a stay at home mom I decided that I needed a christmas break of my own and basically took all last week off from painting, staining, etc.  It was a much needed break but I was able to sell a piece and have someone coming tomorrow to pick up another piece that was finished before my break.

Here are the before and after of this ivory dresser that sold on New Years Eve!

  Sold for $140

This next dresser I was going to keep for myself but when I started emptying my current dresser I got a little sentimental.  My current dresser was the first piece that we refinished and worked on.  Since I put this piece on craigslist I have received over 5 calls/texts/emails about it!

Sold pending pickup $150

I have 3 more dressers that are being worked on right now so there will be lots to see in the next couple weeks!  I hope everyone had a very happy new year!!

The Treasures Aren't Always Furniture

If you have been following this blog since the beginning you know that this whole yard saling journey began with a $3 mickey waffle iron that we sold for $127 on ebay!  Well, believe it or not I found another mickey waffle iron...THE SAME ONE!!!  My hubby and I were at a yard sale and the owner must have been a Disneyland passholder for decades because they had Disney stuff coming out their wazoo!  We were looking around and I saw that someone had that waffle iron in their pile to buy.  I pointed it out to my husband and after the family paid we went to offer them some money for it but, it turned out that they didn't buy it and put it back!  My husband ran back and there it was....this time we paid $5...and made $100.  Within 7 days of buying it we posted it, sold it, and shipped it to Alabama!!

Here are the pics of this cute little waffle iron!  Who knew?

It's Been Awhile!!

It has been a little bit since I have had the chance to sit down and update my blog!!  The good news is that I have alot to share with you on what we have finished and sold.

The last time I posted I wrote about a Tiffany tall boy dresser that sold within a day....here is her shorter sister that has now sold as well.
 Sold $130

The next piece that sold was a curvy wide dresser....and it sold without hardware.  I had a hard time finding hardware that worked that wasn't going to break the bank so I posted it without hardware hoping that I would come up with a solution or sell it and we sold it!!

Sold $120

The newest piece that has sold just sold today and it is something completely different from anything else that we have done.  Its a retro style dresser that we made two toned.  What do you think?

Sold $150

In the last month we have completed a beautiful antique beige desk, that I kept, and I made my own custom chair. Pictures to come.  We are also in the middle of quite a few projects so more to come next week when they are done.
